Montgomery – State Treasurer Kay Ivey welcomed Governor Bob Riley to her Capitol office today for the signing of HB43, legislation passed during the regular legislative session to provide a tax deduction for Alabama families making a contribution, up to $5,000, per year, to one of Alabama’s two college savings plans. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Richard Lindsey (D-Centre) and sponsored in the Alabama Senate by Sen. Zeb Little (D-Cullman).
TREASURER IVEY WELCOMES GIRLS STATE TO THE STATE CAPITOL 6/13/2008 View
Montgomery – Treasurer Kay Ivey welcomed Alabama Girls State Treasurer Hannah Hicks to her Capitol office today. Hicks, a rising senior at Etowah High School, was elected Treasurer of Girls State on Thursday. She is the daughter of Gordon and Kerry Hicks of Attalla. Hicks was joined by the Deputy Treasurer of Girls State, Emily McKibben, a rising senior at Vestavia Hills High School, the daughter of Mike and Laura McKibben.
BOYS STATE TREASURER VISITS STATE TREASURY 6/6/2008 View
MONTGOMERY— The Alabama Treasury hosted in the Capitol office today Jeffrey Bolan, a rising senior at Hazel Green High School, elected earlier this week as Alabama Boys State Treasurer. Bolan, the son of Tommy and Laura Bolan, is the president of the Hazel Green High School National Honor Society and an active member of First Baptist Church of Meridianville.

Montgomery – State Treasurer Kay Ivey’s legislation to provide a tax deduction for Alabama families making a contribution, up to $5,000, per year, to one of Alabama’s state-sponsored college savings plans received unanimous approval by the Alabama Senate on May 1, but was contingent upon HB357 also passing to replace the lost revenue to the Education Trust Fund. The Alabama Senate gave final passage to that bill this morning.

Montgomery – State Treasurer Kay Ivey’s legislation to provide a tax deduction for Alabama families making a contribution, up to $5,000, per year, to one of Alabama’s state-sponsored college savings plans received a unanimous favorable report by the Alabama Senate Education Finance and Taxation Committee Wednesday. The bill, HB43, is sponsored by Representative Richard Lindsey (D-Centre), and Senator Zeb Little (D-Cullman) is the lead sponsor of the Senate bill. The Senate bill is cosponsored by twenty-five of the thirty-five members.

MONTGOMERY—The Alabama Higher Education 529 Fund’s direct-sold plan has been named one of the top performing 529 plans in the nation by the nationally-recognized website, www.savingforcollege.com. Alabama’s direct-sold plan ranked third in one-year investment performance and sixth in three-year investment performance compared to the direct-sold plans offered by other states.
ONLINE SAFE REPORTING FULLY IMPLEMENTED 3/6/2008 View
MONTGOMERY—During the month of February, all 177 qualified public depositories submitted their monthly SAFE Program report to the Treasurer’s Office using the online SAFE Web reporting system.

Montgomery – State Treasurer Kay Ivey’s legislation to provide a tax deduction for Alabama families making a contribution, up to $5,000, per year, to one of Alabama’s state-sponsored college savings plans received unanimous passage in the Alabama House of Representatives today. The bill, HB43, was sponsored by Representative Richard Lindsey (D-Centre), Chairman of the House Education Appropriations Committee, and passed with a vote of 90-0. The bill now goes to the Alabama Senate where a companion bill, SB349, is sponsored by Senator Zeb Little and cosponsored by twenty-five of the thirty-five members.
